BMW 3 Series — 8 Months of M4 Salt Damage Reversed
The situation: A Swindon commuter had been driving the M4 and A419 daily for 8 months without any professional cleaning. The lower third of the car — sills, bumpers, wheel arches, and alloys — had accumulated a heavily compacted layer of road salt, iron brake particles, and motorway road film that a standard wash wouldn’t touch. The alloy wheels had started showing visible pitting beneath the grime.
What we did: We set up at the customer’s parking space at Blagrove Business Park during their working day. We started with a pH-neutral snow foam pre-soak, followed by an iron fallout remover spray (the chemical reaction turning the runoff purple-red confirms iron particle contamination). After rinsing, we clay-barred all lower panels to lift embedded road film, then carried out a full two-bucket hand wash, dedicated alloy cleaning with a barrel brush, microfibre dry, and finished with a carnauba wax application.
The result: The iron particle pitting on the alloys was superficial and fully reversed. The customer collected the car at the end of the working day with paintwork and wheels restored to new condition. Their words: “I genuinely didn’t think the alloys could be saved. They’re better than they’ve ever looked.”
