Volkswagen Passat — Quedgeley: M5 Iron and Lease Return Preparation
The result: The lease company surveyor noted only minor wear on the driver's seat bolster, which fell within fair wear. No paint charge was raised. The owner calculated the saving against the penalty he'd been quoted informally was over five times the cost of the detail.
A Quedgeley-based regional sales manager was approaching the end of a three-year company lease on his Volkswagen Passat. He'd driven predominantly on the M5 and M50 corridors and was concerned about paint and interior condition given the BVRLA fair wear and tear standards that would be applied at handback.
The exterior paint showed the classic symptoms of motorway iron fallout — a rough, sandpaper-like texture on horizontal surfaces and light etching around the wheel arches where brake dust had concentrated. Iron fallout remover produced a vivid purple reaction across the bonnet, roof and boot lid. After clay bar decontamination, a single-stage machine polish levelled the clear coat. Interior steam extraction removed coffee residue from the driver's seat and a light tobacco odour from the cabin. We documented the condition before and after with photographs for his handback appointment.
