The challenge
A British winter is hard on cars: corrosive road salt, constant damp, freezing mornings and dark, wet drives. Most people react to winter damage after it's happened; this owner wanted to prevent it, getting their car protected in autumn before the first grit went down. The Juke lived outside and did regular miles on the gritted roads around Gloucester, so it would see plenty of salt.
The goal was straightforward but covered several areas at once — paint, underbody and glass — which is exactly what a dedicated winter protection service bundles together, as our winter prep checklist sets out.
How we solved it
- Paint: a decontamination wash followed by a durable sealant, so road salt and grime have less to cling to and wash off more easily
- Underbody: protective treatment of the underbody, arches and sills — the areas that take the worst of the salt spray
- Glass: a rain-repellent treatment for better wet and night visibility through the dark months
- Finishing checks: cleaned and checked the lights, and dressed the trim and tyres
Why prevention beats cure
Winter damage — dulled paint, the early stages of corrosion, salt etching — is far cheaper to prevent than to repair. Sealing surfaces before the salt arrives, and protecting the hidden underbody where rust really takes hold, is inexpensive insurance against problems that are expensive (and sometimes impossible) to reverse later. It pairs naturally with dedicated underbody rust protection for cars being kept long-term. The ideal time is autumn, before the gritters start.
